Grace Inn....not so graceful!

Ok so not that thrilled wit the hotel staff! The rooms are ok and what I expected from a old hotel, also the tile flooring all around is very sout western style and quite nice!

Lets start with the check in process...my room for the whole weekend is 229. but I checked my card this morning and there is a hold for 300???? I will ask about this in a few. No biggy just bothers me why they are charging extra???

Next the restaurant... which is called BG's they are running a special for 4$ for a decent breakfast plus another 2$ for a drink, now the food was very good healthy portions and cooked to order. Now the service...HORRIBLE!!!! There was a sign that said "Please wait to be seated" Me and my son waited several minutes and no one came to seat us. I made eye contact with a server and was ignored! So I started to walk in looking for someone to seat us. When the waiter who must have been the host as well and rushed to seat us but I got the feeling I was intruding on his day!

It all went down from there as he abrouptly told my son that he did get eggs with his meal! Then I for those that know me I am a coffee achiever and never got a refill even after I asked twice!

So while the meal was good, the service sucked! I of course will go back because the price is right and I dont have to drag my son to a offsite spot to eat. But I will let the hotel manager know before I leave to end my vacation.

more to come...

Hellfrost by Triple Ace Games...GET IT!

Hellfrost by Triple Ace Games is my answer to D&D 4th Ed. I wanted so badly to like the new D&D and after running Keep on the Shadowfel for my son and some friends I just could NOT get into it! For me it's WoW in pen and paper form. If I want to play WoW I will fire up my mac and play!

But I must say I am really impressed with the layout and setup of the Hellfrost (HF) book.  My only gripe would be that I would have really liked to have seen a world map in the book, or at least up on the site for download. Other than that I am over all pleased by the qaulity and detail of the book.

I posted the link to the site above so if you are looking for something "different" and can stand the cold! Check out HF!

More to come ....

ahhh the weekend that was...

I went to Tucson again and hung out with my AWESOME friends the Blessings! Me and my son had a wonderful time at the SAGA guild meetings and Friday night Ron ran a new game for us and JLDecker was there and I think fun was had by all.

It appears that I might be making this trip twice a month as we may have a game going, I hope so I need a social life! :-)

Wandering Monsters High School rpg at SAGA Tucson

OK so I was at this months SAGA event in Tucson and while there was not as many people there this time I had allot of fun. My son, Jonathan and I were there to play some games and hand out with Ron and the SAGA crew.

I was slated to run Shaintar but alas it was not meant to be as I had 2 players, one of them being my son! So Kynn Bartlett was there and was looking for people to play test is game called "Wandering High School Monsters", Ok let me say this the character creation was a blast! and it was so easy we all picked it up super quick and it was fun!

The premise is that you are a minion of the evil monster and your masters are tired of there monsters being killed so easy that it is decided to send you (monster minion) to school! That being said your are free to create just about any monster you want. I was a Medusa, now because as a monster you tend not to remember much you are required to take certain classes. Such classes that benefit a monster that works in a dungeon, like Wandering monster 101 and Ambush and so on. Of course as a high school student you need some activities such as cheer leading and slamball. I of course was on the cheer leading squad and was also the math teachers pet! (a perk you can get!) Many of the perks are just what you would expect from highschool.

Kynn is on facebook and hopes to have pdf's of the book for sale soon. I recommend you buy it! This is one game I will be buying and playing with my son and friends.

So in closing me and Jonathan had a blast in Tucson and as always we will be back next month! Oh! and I am now a Marshall on the SAGA board and am looking forward to helping out in various ways to promote SAGA and the activities that it sponsors.

So till next time be well...

new game I am really excited about...Hellfrost

ok if you have not seen this yet you need to go check out the site Hellfrost , this game looks to be everything I am looking for  in a fantasy rpg. I gave D&D 4th ed. a solid try and just did not like the play style, Palladium is old and tired! GURPs just cant find a group, the list goes on and on....

I am scheduled to run Hellfrost at RandomCon later this year and am looking forward to it. Since PhoenixCon is no more this is taking the place of it and at the end of the year I will have RinCon in Tucson with my friends from the Games the Thing podast.

Of course if we are talking podcast then we have to give a shout out to 2D6 feet in a random direction...or just 2D6. My bestest friend Brian runs this pod and it is great to be able to hear his voice and toast a pint to him, even if we cant do it in the same room!

Well thats it for now I will post more latter.

The Parrot

The Parrot

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift.

The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and

laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's

attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music

and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the
bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.

The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got
angrier

and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hands,

grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a
minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly open the door to the
freezer,

the parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said,

"I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions.

I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully

intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable
behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic

change in his behavior, the bird continued,

"May I ask what the turkey did?"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! :-)

RPG: Shaintar Immortal Legends - softback

Woot!!! I just got my copy of Shaintar in today's mail and I must say what a beautiful book! If you like Savage Worlds and you like fantasy then pick this book up!

The art is by Jason Engle who in my opinion is one of the most talented fantasy artist out there! The world that Sean Patrick Fannon creates along with the other writer and contributors is AMAZING!

I can honestly say that when the rest of the books come out they will have a place on my shelf!

I hope to run a game soon!

Scribe fire in Firefox

Those of you that know me know that I am a big Firefox fan so I just
wanted to let you know that Scribefire is a plugin that works with
Firefox and so far appears to work well.

There is a link below to get Scribefire if you are interested. I use
Qumana on the mac and pc side but it is a external application and
takes up a bit of hard drive space! Scribefire is a plug-in for Firefox
and take very little space!

Try it and let me know what you think…

Keep on the Shadowfell - A D&D 4th Ed. Adventure

The party:

Mike: Braxious - Human Fighter

Jonathan: Legolas - Eladrin Mage

Robert: Reordin - Eladrin Thief

Steve: Kirmingle - Elf Hunter (bow)

Tom: Thorin - Human - Cleric: Worship Amaunator

The players have made it to Winterhaven and have joined up for various reasons, feeling that there is safety in numbers and since they were all heading to Winterhaven they decided to travel together.

They have taken a commission from the Lord of Winterhaven, Lord Ernest Padraig to clear out the Kobold infestation that has plagued the land of late. Finding out that Reordin's teacher was looking for some Dragons hoard that he believed was in the area he came to Winterhaven and has not been seen since. Upon learning of the Kobolds lair the party decided to investigate and see if they could find any news of Reordins lost mentor! As fate would have it they were able to find the former Dragons lair and upon arriving there they find a Gnome by the name of Agrid who bade's them to see what he and his human laborers found! The party sensing the deception attacked and the battle ensued! the brigands and Drakes were no match for the well prepared party and they managed to dispatch Agrid and his cohorts with little difficulty. The party was also fortunate enough to find Douven Staul bound and beaten at the site, thus completing their quest to find him for his wife. Douven, greatful for being rescued retrieves his necklace from the corpse of Agrid and removes the picture of his wife from the locket and gives it to his former apprentice Reordin as a reward.

The party has headed back to Winterhaven to rest up and inform Lord Padraig that the Kobold infestation has been dealt with. they are resting up at Wrafton's Inn when the owner and operator, Salvana Wrafton informs them that Valthrun the Prescient the local sage is looking for them and has left word for them to come to his tower.

With this the players have a dread feeling that there may be a cult trying to do evil in the area and thus further adventures may await the group....

D&D tonight! Woot!!!

Ok so I am running my players thru D&D's 4th Edition campaign Keep on the Shadowfell and we are about 1/3rd of the way into the campaign. I am really enjoying running the game and the nice part is even though the players have all these cool powers the monsters and NPC's also have some cool powers. I really think WotC has hit the nail on the head with this game line. I will try to post more on the game over the weekend.

Also I will do a seperate post about my car accident that happened on 09/25/2008 on my way back from lunch with pictures even!

D&D 4th Edition...oh yeah!

Ok so I bought the core books for 4th ed, and even better tonight I ran my first session! That's right and let me tell you it was...fun! Yes I Mr. Mean hater of all things 3.5 D&D had a blast running 4th ed!

I was really impressed by how fast the combat session went in fact I was still in 3.5 mode and only prep for a single encounter as I expected combat to drudge on for at least 2 or more hours...but was I wrong, heres a break down of the combat...

the bad guys!:

15 Goblin Cutters (minions)

2 Goblin Warriors (these guys were pretty tough!)

1 Goblin Hexer (spellcaster)

PC's: a.k.a. the good guys!

Ivan - Aelar - Elf - Fighter

Patrick - Malaras - Dragonborn - Ranger (melee)

Jared - Tim - Human - Thief (he claims gardner!)

Brian - Soveliss - Eladrin - Warlock (Infernal)

David - Hallack - Dwarf - Paladin (Moradin)

Dustin - Darvin - Human??? - Wizard

Mike - Keldaar - Dwarf - Warlord

Steve - Kelben - Human??? - Ranger

I ran the starting adventure out of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide and just added a few more cutters to the party which the players managed to mangle up pretty good and it only too 2 and a half rounds!

some high lights:

  • The Goblin Warrior manages to land a solid hit on Jareds Thief, Tim doing max damage with his javalin and a spear for a total of 20 points! (Tim only had 29 Hit Points!)
  • The Hexer manages to tag the Mage with Blinding Hex! But the Mage manages to save the next round thus ending my joy!
  • The CRAZY elf Aelar goes buck wild and starts killing Goblins in a bloody mess!
  • The Paladin marks the Goblin Warrior with "Divine Challange" and then spends a action point to move away thus leaving the Warrior flanked by the CRAZY Elf and the Infernal Warlock who also curses him as well! Not a good day to be a goblin!

All in all it did not go as planned for the Goblins, who after the Hexer dies the rest fled back into the forest!

The Mage managed to find a note written in common and also a small bone totem that appears to be what the goblins were after if the note found on the Hexer is to be believed!

We broke right after the fight and will pick up from there. I will post more later over the 3 day weekend that starts at noon for me on Friday which is tomorrow!

Dark Age 1st Game: Skarrd Father's Tribes meets the Forsakken on the field of battle!

So today was a fun day! Why you ask...I got to hang with my son and my buddy Nubby Mike!

We sat down to play a small game of Dark*Age after all said and done I must say it was fun and the only thing now is that me and Mike agreed that we need more mini's!

The game: Dark*Age

Scenario: Kill them all!

Table: 4x4 - terrain: small hills and and peaks!

The Father and his Skarrd are out scouting the area as they have heard rumors that the Forsaken's St. Mark and his cronies are out in force!

The Troops:

Skarrd:

Father

Raze

Saber

x5 Buzz Blades

Forsaken:

St. Mark

Reaver

x2 Coils

x3 Junkers

Turn One - *note I am telling this tale from the side of the Skarrd! also we did use the proper I move you move, but I am just telling it side by side!

We start out with me (Skarrd) going first and Father moving out to my right flank and the buzz blades taking the center of the field and Raze lumbering up on the left flank of the map! Saber waited to strike!

The evil and nasty St. Mark troops proceeded to move, The Junkers strode out to meet the Buzz Blades. St. Mark stayed behind to guide his mooks! The pair of Coils too their left flank to perhaps cut off Father! The Reaver decided to hide behind a small hill over by Raze! The Junkers decided to fire on the Buzz Blades and managed to kill three of the five, forceing Fathers Buzz Blades to make a morale check but true to the Fathers will they stayed firm and kept closing on the Junkers!

Turn Two -  Father again was able to direct his troops! ( I won the init roll!), and Father decided to send Saber out to take out St. Mark's Reaver! Which she did with little to no problem! Hence earning her name Saber and the ability to Assassinate! Raze continues to lumber forth! getting into range of the Junkers and due to his fearsome presence causes them to take a fear check and which they fail! Also Fathers last two Buzz Blades decide to let brother Raze deal with the Junkers and go after the coils, the Junkers charged and manage to hit the two Coils with vicious hits but did not manage to kill them! Father stays put and directs his children!

St. Marks Coils decided to deal with the Junkers and managed to slay them with little to no effort! The Junkers still frozen with fear from Raze did nothing but move away from Raze! St. Mark manages to move a little closer to Raze and Saber deciding that Raze is more of a threat than Saber (Silly man!) and pops off two rounds into Raze!  wounding Raze with a crit!

Turn Three -  Again Father decides to direct his children at the horrible forces of St. Mark! Saber feeling irritated that St. Mark would chose to ignore her and she decides that she will kill him! Thus charging him and and cutting him down! Thus breaking the will of the St. Mark's forces and they withdraw from the field of battle!

***Thoughts***

Wow the game was fun! Me and Mike both enjoyed the flow of the rules! We had several small questions about the rules but kept the flow of the game and I must say the cheat sheet at the end of the book was very helpful! We were confused on how the times X multiplier worked. For some reason we just could not wrap our domes around it! We managed to get it figured out and keep playing! The Forsaken of course have the ranged ability that my Skarrd lack but after looking on the web and the mini's I see that I have some ranged options!

I am really ready to play another game and am looking at the Dragyri force list. A new army I think! Mike already has the Forsaken and he is also looking for some new minis and he has a Brood box set as well so perhaps next time Father will have to beat back the mutants of the Brood!
